Network - Ethertest Ethernet Protocol Analzyer & Network Monitor

Node Statistics

Ethertest’s new Network View enables you to see statistics on specific nodes including communications traffic details and node information for active nodes on the monitored side of the switch.

Individual Active Node Information:

  • Packets Transmitted and Received
  • Bytes Transmitted and Received
  • DNS Names
  • Nodes In and Out
  • Utilization Information
  • Broadcast Information
  • IP Address and MAC Address
  • Named MAC Address
  • NetBios Name
  • Assigned User Friendly Names for each Node

Ethertest turns any network-ready Windows PC into an Ethernet analyzer that is optimal for both traditional enterprise LAN troubleshooting applications, and for the growing number of situations in which data communication professionals must support both Ethernet and serial applications or networks. The feature-rich protocol analyzer offers the comprehensive suite of protocol decodes and comprehensive array of network statistics demanded by today's enterprise network managers. The common user interface significantly shortens the learning curve for engineers, network troubleshooters, and field service technicians working with multiple network topologies, such as serial and Ethernet.

In applications ranging from finance to manufacturing, high-speed Ethernet networks are displacing slower-speed serial data communication networks as the solution of choice to interconnect instrumentation and equipment such as meters, gauges, sensors, transaction terminals, factory equipment, and other networked devices. As a result, many organizations must support both serial and Ethernet networks in order to successfully address mission critical applications including automated process control, data acquisition, status reporting, and transaction processing—which makes Frontline’s Ethertest and Serialtest products, with their common user interface, an unbeatable combination during this time of transition.

Ethernet protocols are decoded at the bit level, thus enabling Ethertest users to rapidly detect and isolate even the most minute and intermittent protocol related problems associated with Ethernet-based products, applications, and networks. For users working with proprietary protocols or extensions to existing protocol decoders, custom decodes can be created by Frontline’s in-house engineering staff, or they can be developed by the customer using the FrameDecoder option.

Ethertest runs on any Windows XP compatible PC and supports both 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps Ethernet data rates. The product supports all Windows compatible network interface card types (PCMCIA, PCI, and ISA), works with all physical Ethernet interfaces (UTP, BNC, and AUI), and interfaces with the Ethernet LAN through any Windows compatible NIC (Network Interface Card).

Ethertest includes analyzer software, a Quick Start guide, FrameDecoder and 1 year of Premium Maintenance. Premium Maintenance entitles the owner to free software upgrades during the maintenance period.

Ethertest is an indispensable tool for Ethernet product developers, equipment installers, network troubleshooters and network administrators. Ethertest enables shorter and less costly product development cycles, faster and more efficient network installations, and improved mean-time-to-repair following network or equipment outages.

How Ethertest Taps the LAN

The PC containing Ethertest taps the Ethernet LAN in the same manner as a standard Ethernet workstation, through any available network drop. See diagrams below on monitoring a network.
